Cricma announcers say fans' perceptions of bias are typical

If you’re a fan of the Miami Heat or Dallas Mavericks and start believing over the next two weeks that ABC’s broadcast crew of Mike Breen, Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson is rooting against your team, you’re probably not alone.

You’re also wrong, according to the announcers, who say they hear complaints about their alleged favoritism all the time.
In this image provided by ESPN, commentators Mark Jackson, left, Jeff Van Gundy, center, and Mike Breen are shown on the ESPN set during an NBA basketball game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, June 3, 2010. With Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson linked to coaching openings, how long can ABC keep its trio together?

“... Our job is to speak the facts. The facts are that a couple of games in the series there were breakdowns, and they didn't play as well as they could have played. They had a couple of games won, and they did not win them. But they had a great season, and they should be extremely proud.”

Breen added, “I think overall broadcasts are more critical in the playoffs in terms of what a team is doing and what a certain player is doing. And I think that's why sometimes the fans might be a little sensitive, because also their emotions are running high.”

Jackson and Breen both said a perception of bias is very common among fans.

Sport in Pakistan

Field hockey is the national sport in Pakistan, but today, cricket is the most popular sport in Pakistan, and they have been considered the most dominant country in the sport of cricket in the last few years.[1] Traditional sports like Kabaddi and other well known games are also played. The Pakistan Sports Board was created in 1962 by the Ministry of Education as a corporate body for the purposes of promoting and developing uniform standards of competition in sports in Pakistan comparable to the standards prevailing internationally, and regulating and controlling sports in Pakistan on a national basis. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, now has control over the Pakistan Sports Board. The PSB controls all 39 Sporting Federations. The Pakistan Sports Board is support by the Pakistan Sports Trust which assists hard up players and associations so they can continue participating in sports.

Over recent years there has been an increase in sporting activity in Pakistan, with Pakistani sportsmen and women participating at many national and international events. Also, more international tournaments now take place in Pakistan. The size of the teams Pakistan sends, and the number of events they participate in the Olympic Games, Asian Games, World Games and Commonwealth Games has increased since the turn of the century.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, had a great love for sport and fully released the vital role it played in the development of Nations and inculcation of discipline among the masses. In a meeting with the Organizing Committee of the First Pakistan Olympic Games held at Karachi Jinnah said to the first President of Pakistan Olympic Association Mr. Ahmed E.H. "Dedicate yourself to sports promotion, for when you and I are gone, leadership will go into the hands of Youth, and Youth is our wealth, a raw material, that must be hammered into shape, into burnished steel to strive and smite in defence - the defence of the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan - the defence of the ideology of Pakistan."

The first National Games were held at Polo Ground, Karachi from 23 to 25 April 1948. Sportsmen and officials from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and all the integrated Provincial units of West Pakistan took part in these Games. The total number of athletes was 140. No competitors were, however, invited from any foreign country. Competitions were held in track and field athletics, basketball, boxing, cycling, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.

Over the years, Pakistan has been held back due to the lack of funds placed in sports. Many facilities are of substandard, this has seen Pakistan fall behind other nations. In the early years, the young state would be able to compete, with many success, but during the late 70's with the government not investing in sports, the country no longer could compete.

Pakistan's cricket teams take part in domestic competitions such as the ABN AMRO Cup, the ABN-AMRO Patron's Trophy, ABN-AMRO Twenty-20 Cup, and the ABN-AMRO Champions Trophy. International test and one-day matches are played between the Pakistan national team and foreign opponents regularly. The Pakistan Cricket Board controls both the men’s and women’s games. Women's Cricket is also very popular, with Kiran Baluch holding the current record of the highest score in a women's test match with her 242. Mexico, Costa Rica win big to open Gold Cup

Sunday's other game also had a 5-0 scoreline, with Costa Rica thumping Cuba.

Mexico was already 2-0 up when Hernandez scored his first goal in the 60th minute with a long-range bouncing header of an Efrain Juarez corner.

He added his second seven minutes later, scoring from 10 yards, and completed his hat trick with a penalty in stoppage time.

"He was fortunate to score as a result of good team play," Mexico coach Jose Manuel De La Torre said. "He did what forwards are supposed to do."

Hernandez's final goal came after Marvin Gonzalez was red carded for a reckless foul on 'Chicharito', drawing boos from the majority of the 80,000 fans who were supporting Mexico.

"It's unbelievable the support we have from the Mexicans we have that live here. You can see it with your own eyes," Hernandez said, "80,000 people and most of them in green shirts."

Juarez scored the game's first goal after he rebounded his own missed shot, which was blocked by El Salvador goalkeeper Miguel Montes. Aldo De Nigris made it 2-0 in the 57th minute just a minute after coming on as a substitute.

"It was difficult to change in 5 minutes after a positive 55 minutes," El Salvador coach Ruben Israel said. "If you look at the game, luck was not on our side."

Meanwhile, Marco Urena scored twice in Costa Rica's big win.

Christian Bolanos set up Urena's first goal, in the seventh minute, with a cross from the left and also played a part in Alvaro Saborio's 41st-minute goal that earned Costa Rica a 2-0 halftime lead.(gold cup 2011, copa de oro 2011 calendario, copa de oro, copa oro, copa de oro 2011 )

Urena made it 3-0 in the first minute of the second half when he beat Cuba goalkeeper Odelin Molina one-on-one before firing in from close range.

Heiner Mora scored less than a minute later to put the result beyond doubt.

Joe Campbell, who replaced Urena in the 56th minute, volleyed home the fifth goal in the 71st minute.

"At the start of the game the passing was a bit imprecise," Costa Rica coach Ricardo La Volpe said. "I spoke to them about it at halftime and I thought they came out better.

"We're starting a new tournament, getting to know each other on the field."

Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner Share Steamy Movie Awards Kiss

The third time was the charm for three-time MTV Movie Awards Best Kiss winners Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart ... or, at least, it should have been.

For the past two years, the "Twilight" stars have teased Movie Awards audiences with almost-kisses as they accepted their award.(robert pattinson, kristen stewart, kristen stewart and robert pattinson, robsten, mtv movie awards 2011) So on Sunday night (June 4), when presenters Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds announced that RPattz and KStew had won for their smooch in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," it seemed this year's show would finally bring the big moment fans have been waiting for. Well, er, it wasn't.

"I feel bad because I don't feel like kissing you," Pattinson apologized to Stewart onstage. "You don't want to kiss me, do you?"

Stewart, though, seemed more willing. "Well, it's been a long time and I think maybe we should finally go for it," she said to cheers from the crowd.

But Pattinson still wasn't having it. "I just think there's someone else in the audience who I think will appreciate it a little more," he said.

Cue the camera cutting to a stone-faced Taylor Lautner.

"Go get him," Stewart encouraged.

Pattinson then took to the Gibson Amphitheatre floor running. As the audience screamed in excitement, he leaned over and gave Lautner a full-on smooch on the lips as his werewolf co-star wrapped an arm around him. Of course, Lautner also wiped his mouth immediately after (too much tongue?), but Pattinson wasn't done. Soon he was right back onstage going after Stewart — for real.

She squealed, "No!" and ran away laughing. "What? I want to take you back stage!" Pattinson said with a flirty grin. And the pair made their dramatic and hilarious exit ... but still no kiss.

Steve Nash comes clean on gay NBA player issue

Steve Nash, the Sun star point guard, said he does not believe an NBA player disclosing his sexual orientation as gay would turn into a big issue any more. Nash talked to the New York Times and stated that the admission by a NBA player to being a gay would be astonishingly understood and accepted.

It is pertinent to note that the subject of homosexuality took the center stage when the Suns’ CEO “Rick Welts” emerged out of the secret at the start of this month.

“If a player in the locker room came out, it would come and go quickly, too. I really don’t think it’s a big issue anymore. I think it would be surprisingly accepted, and a shorter shelf life than maybe we would imagine. I think the time has come when it should happen soon. I think it will be something that won’t take on this life of its own. It won’t be the O. J. trial,” Steve Nash told the Times when asked if the NBA is prepared to welcome a candidly gay player.

The comment of Nash reverberate the remarks by Charles BarkleyCharles Barkley, who recently put forward the thought that professional players may be additionally tolerant of a candidly homosexual teammate that many would reflect.

“It bothers me when I hear these reporters and jocks get on TV and say, ‘Oh, no guy can come out in a team sport. These guys would go crazy,’” Barkley said. “First of all, quit telling me what I think.(dirk nowitzki girlfriend, dirk nowitzki, nowitzki, chris bosh, dallas mavericks ) I’d rather have a gay guy who can play than a straight guy who can’t play,” he added.

Meanwhile Steve Nash and Dirk NowitzkiDirk Nowitzki, both the NBA stars, have demonstrated their support for the Vancouver Canucks in their pursuit to take home the Stanley Cup.
