Powerball winning numbers worth $180 million

Mega Millions had a winner of $99 million in its Friday night drawing, but the multi-state Powerball lottery is continuing to rise for Saturday night, currently standing at $180 million, with a cash option value of $100.3 million.

Wednesday night’s drawing was the 10th consecutive one without a jackpot winner being selected.

According to Lottery Post, one ticket sold in Arkansas matched the first five numbers for a $200,000 second-place prize and was purchased with the Power Play option, which multiplied the prize to $1 million. Twelve other tickets won $200,000, none coming from New Jersey.

It costs an extra $1 to purchase a Powerball ticket with the Power Play option. In Power Play, non-jackpot prizes are multiplied anywhere from 2-5 times, depending on a computerized random number generated that evening. Second-place winning Power Play tickets matching five numbers but not the Powerball are always multiplied by 5 times, for a $1 million prize. Wednesday’s Power Play number was 2.

Powerball winning numbers worth $144 million

The multi-state Powerball Lottery has gone through eight drawings in a row without a winner, so the jackpot for Wednesday has been raised to $144 million.

Six players matched the first five numbers in Saturday’s drawing without the Powerball to win $200,000, none of them from New Jersey, according to usamega.com.

As huge as the odds are against winning the lottery, there are still plenty of winners who delay claiming their prizes, or don’t claim them at all. Cashunclaimed.com reports that New Jersey gives players a year to claim their lottery wins; while tickets are allowed to expire after three or six months in some states. Connecticut lets people file lost ticket claims and investigate what might have happened to their missing ticket.

In Michigan, a proposed law asks lawmakers to prevent anyone receiving welfare from winning major Michigan State Lottery prizes over $600.

Philly.com reported that in the nearby Philadelphia area, only two days remained for someone to claim $200,000 won by a Powerball ticket purchased for the May 26, 2010, drawing at Kelly's News, in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. It matched the first five numbers drawn without the Powerball.

And there were only five days left for a $200,000 winner in the May 29, 2010, Powerball drawing purchased in Avondale.
