Dolphins to conditionally acquire Bush from Saints

The third piece of cricket ground equipment that is needed before starting to play cricket is the stumps and bails. The stumps are 3 wooden polls that are placed vertically in the ground directly behind the batter at each end of the pitch. Stumps are no more than 28 inches tall and have a spike at the end to be easily put into the ground. The bails are two small pieces of wood that sit on top of the stumps to link them together. In a game of cricket the batter is out when the stumps are broken apart, with one or both of the bail’s leaving the stumps. This can happen through the ball hitting the wicket, the batter hitting the wicket with their bat or if a fielder hits the wicket with the hand the ball is in.

The final two pieces of cricket ground equipment needed to begin your game of cricket is a ball and a bat. A regulation cricket ball has a cork base, and is wrapped in twine which is covered with leather. Cricket balls are also normally red or white, and very hard making them a potentially dangerous object when playing a game. A regulation cricket bat is often made from either Kashmir or English willow. A cricket bat has a long handle and on smooth face, with the other face in a triangular shape. Regulations also state that bats can be no longer than 38 inches and no wider than 4.25 inches.

What a great game cricket is. To me anyway. The game is so often played with such good sportsmanship, and passion. Nobody trying to get an opponent sent off, or con the U.umpire into making a decision that will benefit their team. The sound of willow on ball used to indictate the beginning of summer for me. When I lived with my parents I could see the village green from my bedroom window. Many a saturday was spent just gazing out at the green, watching teams play the noble sport.

Many will argue that cricket is boring. I would just answer, "how?" A whole day of sporting entertainment, instead of eighty or ninety minutes. Crowds that enjoy the game and a beer without the need for a riot, in England anyway. Fielders may be inactive for large parts of the game, yet have to be ready to react should the ball travel towards them.

They are then responsible for either catching the ball or minimising the amount of runs scored. Bowlers and batsmen are a lot more active. There is a lot of skill in bowling a fast ball accurately, as well as be able to strike it in bat to score the maximum amount of runs. Anyone who has watched a nail biting game where a small amount of runs are the only difference between your team winning or losing will testify to the excitement stirred up. Watching wickets falling that could make your team winners has got to be as exciting as someone kicking a ball into the back of a net hasn't it?

There are also many who propose that there is little skill to the game. That the game is "easy". I suggest they stand in bat in front of a fast bowler and not run cowering after the first ball whizzes past them at nearly one hundred miles per hour. Those same people may wish to try and bowl the ball accurately with any speed or spin, and not have the batsman score obscene amounts of runs from their bowling. When I first started to play cricket as a youngster I was amazed at just how physically tiring it was to bowl a good over. As for the bgame being easy, it took a lot of practice for me to avoid the vast array of bruising I recieved from balls that I had missed judged and had contact with. There are still plenty of injuries and bruising, even from the most experienced players. You never stop improving in this game.

Just because cricket has a touch more class than other sports, avoiding bad press and over exposure, does not mean that it is any less exciting or requires a lesser level of talent. The relaxing atnosphere of a game, beer in hand, friendly banter with opposing supporters, watching a good game, is as exciting as anything else I could imagine watching. As for taking part in a competitive game, batting, bowling, fielding or keeping wicket, it feels as exciting, and leads me to be driven to want to win as much as any other sportsmen would feel playing their chosen persuit. Cricket remains a wonderfull pass time to me, just as it always has done.

Cricket bats are an integral part of the great sport of cricket. Cricket has been around for hundreds of years and in that time span changes have occurred to the game and the equipment. It is said that the early bats were similar to hockey sticks, with a long shank and a shorter angled end. In fact one of these early bats, said to be from 1729, exists and is on display in London. Since then the bats have evolved and modern style bats are not only shaped differently, there are more distinguishing features.

Modern cricket bats are paddle shaped, with a slim handle and a wider blade. The blade is flat on the front side and the back side has an aerodynamic v-shaped ridge. The ball is hit with the flat side of the bat. The cricket bat is usually made from willow wood because it is rugged and virtually splinter-proof while remaining fairly light. The bats are treated with linseed oil and this serves two purposes. It protects the willow wood and it also provides increased friction on the surface when it meets the ball and that helps the batsman's control. Aluminum bats are not allowed in organized games because they can damage the cricket balls.

Bat size is regulated and can be up to 965 mm long and the blade up to 108 mm wide. While there is no restriction on weight, most weigh between 1.1 to 1.4 kg. Most bats today are machine-made, but there are some craftsmen who make cricket bats by hand. These are generally custom orders for professional players or for very serious amateurs who are seriously passionate about the sport.

New cricket bats should be seasoned a bit before they are used. This is called knocking-in and involves hitting the bat surface with a bat mallet or with a cricket ball. This action will compact the fibers inside the bat and should help prevent it from snapping or splintering during use. The product manual that comes with your bat will tell you to knock in your bat for three to six hours, and this is usually about eight thousand hits to the bat. However, some manufacturers offer pre-knocked cricket bats at a higher price. Your choice will depend on whether you want to save money or save time.

Not only money, cricketers are also going to earn fame like British footballer David Beckham," adds Sebastian.

The Qualities Required For One Day Cricket

Cricket is a popular sport all over the world and one day cricket is arguably the most exciting form of the game. The one day game involves matches that are much shorter in duration compared to test cricket. This is why players who feature in the test side do not always get in the one day team and vice versa.

Lea Michele, Cory Monteith And Chris Colfer Are Officially Leaving "Glee"

Unless he's trying to bring the scripted world a dose of "Jersey Shore" cast back-and-forth, Ryan Murphy dropped a real bombshell last night:

Three of the biggest stars of "Glee" will leave the show after season three.

The actors in question are Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer -- whom, by our estimate, have probably gotten around 75 percent combined of "Glee" screen time thus far in the show.

It's certainly hard to imagine the series without them -- especially Michele and Colfer.

After seven seasons with the Rescue Me "boys club," Callie Thorne says she can more than hold her own with the guys.

"I developed my own truck driver mouth," the actress tells PEOPLE with a laugh. But when the cast filmed the final season – which will air Wednesdays (10 p.m. ET) on FX – the gang of tough guys softened up.

Why Do the English Love Cricket?

In North America and much of the world, cricket remains a mystery. In England, the home of cricket, the sport still has a strong following. Why is it that the English love cricket?

It's not surprising that so many people can't see what all the fuss is about when it comes to cricket. Any sport in which two teams can compete for 5 days and still fail to produce a winner does not look likely to ever have much of a worldwide appeal.

Despite this, cricket was successfully exported during the times of the British Empire. It remains exceedingly popular in Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa and the Caribbean (to name just a few areas where cricket has seen success).

Some wonder whether the English love of cricket is simply a result of the renowned eccentricity of the English. After all, it's not even as though England are particularly good at the sport.

Like so many other sports invented by the English, it appears that they have generally been on the receiving end of heavy defeats from other countries.

Part of the reason why cricket remains so popular is undoubtedly because cricket matches, at all levels, continue to be seen as much of a social engagement as a sporting activity.

Watching a game of cricket on the television, it's clear that many spectators follow the game because they like an excuse to meet up with friends, drink beer, sing songs and generally have a good time. Cricket simply provides a backdrop.

Cricket on the village green seems to be played along similar lines. The social aspect often appears more important than the result.

The Role of Selectors in Cricket

Cricket is unique when it comes to selecting a team or squad of players. It has its own unique team selection process that is not found elsewhere in professional sport. In soccer, there is one man in the form of a manager or head coach whose job it is to pick the team. Cricket is different and team and squad selection is the responsibility of a panel containing several selectors. The selection panel consists of a relatively small number of people who all have a background in cricket. Former cricketers have a wealth of cricket related experience gained from playing the game at various levels.

The role of selectors in cricket can sometimes cause controversy especially when a team suffers adverse performances and results. The blame for losing cricket matches usually ends up at the door of the selectors. This is perfectly understandable after all it is the selector's job to pick the team. If those players do not produce the goods then questions are inevitably asked of the people who selected them in the first place. In other sports, a manager can be sacked for poor performance. It is more difficult for this course of action to be applied to cricket.

In most cases especially where international cricket is concerned the selectors have a highly paid job. Travelling the world all expenses paid watching top class cricket is quite a privileged position. This means they will come in for plenty of criticism if the supporters do not agree with some aspects of their selection. As in most sports, the cricket fans all have their own opinions on who should be selected to play. That is the beauty of professional cricket and everyone has their own personal views on the game.

The cricket coach is usually a selector as well and because he effectively manages the team his opinion carries some weight. If he requests the inclusion or omission of a certain player, he will probably get his wish. The cricket captain is not part of the selection panel although his input is sought and valued by the rest of the selection panel. If the skipper offers his views on certain matters these are taken on board. The last thing the selection panel wants is an unhappy captain so where possible the panel will try to give the skipper the team he wants.

The most important role of selectors in cricket is to pick the best eleven cricketers available at their disposal. Sometimes that is not always possible due to player injuries or even a loss of form. There are sometimes player selections that cause a great deal of controversy and the selectors have to explain the thinking behind their decision. The ultimate objective is providing the captain and coach with the best possible squad of players.

My Love/Hate Relationship with ‘A Dance with Dragons’

George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series “A Song of Ice and Fire” came into my life when a friend recommended the books to me, shortly after the third volume in the saga, “A Storm of Swords,” was published in 2000. I had my doubts – the cover was awful, and I thought the R.R. was a silly gimmick (C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling–great fantasy writers tend to have initials in their names somewhere). I had no faith in the genre after having read a few fantasy novels. I was mainly into fantasy through role-playing games and not the literature. Needless to say I was blown away by these three books.(a dance with dragons)

After finishing “A Storm of Swords” the first long wait began. In the time before the fourth book, I began collecting Ice & Fire-related stuff, like the collectible card game, which sweetened the wait. Finally, in 2005, the fourth book, “A Feast of Crows,” was published, and it was an unexpected and very different book from what had come before. And then began the even longer wait for “A Dance with Dragons.” I hung out on various web forums discussing the books, discussing the wait, reading other books, getting on with my life, but all the time I was impatiently awaiting the fifth book. I dare say no other book has been anticipated with such sweet bitterness; several of the plot lines have been dangling since 2000.

That image, it seems, became something of a brainchild for the brand-new teaser poster for Nolan's third "Batman" film, "The Dark Knight Rises." None of this is to suggest the "Dark Knight Rises" poster is some "Inception" knock-off; Nolan's beloved "Batman" films hardly need to draft off his Oscar-nominated 2010 dream-heist flick. There are, of course, as many differences as there are similarities between the two. First and foremost, in the "Dark Knight Rises" poster, the tops of the buildings outline the unmistakable form of Batman's symbol. And whereas Leonardo DiCaprio is front and center in the "Inception" poster (and up to his knees in flood waters), Christian Bale as Batman or Bruce Wayne is nowhere to be seen in the new poster.(dark knight rises )

For now, the only person we've officially seen in character is Tom Hardy as Bane. In May, a photo of Bane — shot from behind, a menacing mask over his head — popped up online after Warner Bros. launched a viral marketing campaign.
