Cricket Betting Basics Very Important

Cricket is one of the oldest and most popular sports in the world, with its earliest recorded reference being in the early 16th century in England. Over the years, cricket has spread around the world in areas formerly ruled by the British Empire.

Today, there are several types of cricket matches. Test matches are the top tier of cricket. They are five-day matches between international teams, which are made up of the best of the best of domestic teams. One-day international matches are also played, which are limited to 50 overs per team. If you do not want to follow a six-hour or days-long match, consider Twenty20 cricket. This new form of cricket generally lasts around three and a half hours and is limited to one innings a side, each limited to 20 overs. Regardless of the type of match you prefer, the betting strategies are quite similar.

Bettors on cricket utilize both spread betting and odds betting. Spread betting is typically done by betting on how many runs a team or batter will score in their allotted overs. Bettors can also wager on bowlers, with 20 points given for each innings, test or series. Betting on spreads in cricket typically requires more money and is a more advanced betting strategy.

If you’re new to betting on cricket, it would naturally be simpler to wager on a team using odds betting, otherwise known as the money line. Each team has a number associated with it that determines its odds. A negative number means the team is favored to win, while a positive number indicates it is the underdog. The next thing to do is to analyze each team to determine whether it is worth betting against the odds. Here are some factors to keep in mind:

Team Speed: The speed of a team is one of the most important elements, whether fielding or batting. Speed at bat vastly increases the chances of scoring the maximum number of runs possible on each over. Speed in the field can help the wicket keeper keep the batsman at bay, nullifying the advantage of batting first, if the coin toss goes against a team.

Wicket Keeper: The most important position on the fielding team is that of the wicket keeper. It is his job to catch balls missed by the striker, and he also has the best chance of dismissing either of the batsmen. A good wicket keeper will know how to play each of his bowlers, positioning himself in the ideal spot to catch an edge before it hits the pitch. Pay attention to a keeper’s number of catches and stumps, as he is the most likely player on the field to dismiss a batsman.

Bowlers: Good fast bowlers are important, but spinners are even more so, as they can generally cause more catches than any other bowler. Teams have a variety of bowlers to keep the opponent off balance and to bowl successfully in a variety of weather and pitch conditions. Examine the stats of each bowler to determine when he is most successful.

Weather: The cricket pitch is extremely sensitive to weather. This makes weather a more important factor in cricket than it does is in any other sport. Even a little dew will cause the ball to bounce and roll differently. For this reason, it is imperative to pay close attention to the weather at the cricket grounds. In addition to the basic conditions, note the relative humidity as well, as this will help determine the amount of moisture on the pitch and how well it will stand up during the match.

Cricket is a complex sport with a number of variations to suit any style of bettor. As Twenty20 cricket becomes more popular around the world, the appeal of betting on this popular sport is likely to grow along with it.
