Thomas saves Bruins to finish Cup chase

They are the fourth road team to win a Stanley Cup Final Game 7 on the road in 16 tries. However it's the second straight time in which the road team won under the circumstances joining the 2009 Pittsburgh Penguins, who won at the Detroit Red Wings.

Boston became the fifth team to win the Stanley Cup after trailing 2-0 in the series. It also marked the second time this postseason the Bruins won a series after trailing 2-0. In the franchises first 85 years of existence they were 0-26 after falling behind 2-0 in a best-of-7 playoff series.

Tim Thomas capped off his stellar postseason by stopping all 37 shots he faced. He became the fourth goalie to record a Game 7 shutout in the Stanley Cup Final, and first to do so on the road.
He is the second goalie to record two Game 7 shutouts in a single postseason joining Patrick Roy in 2002. In fact only one other goalie in NHL history has two Game 7 shutouts over an entire career. That is Curtis Joseph who had one each for the Edmonton Oilers in 1998 and the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2002.

Thomas set the single postseason record for saves with 798 and recorded the most saves in one Stanley Cup Final with 238. He also became the second American-born player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP joining Brian Leetch in 1994. Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand each scored two goals becoming the 10th and 11th players to do so in a Stanley Cup Final Game 7. Marchand's goals were number 10 and 11 this postseason. He became the fourth rookie to score at least 10 goals in a single postseason and the first since Jeremy Roenick, who scored 11 in 1990 for the Blackhawks.
