You wouldn’t mistake tiny, 18-year-old Selena Gomez for the statuesque 44-year-old Nicole Kidman. But in the comedy “Monte Carlo,” Gomez is playing a role originally designed for the Oscar-winning star of “The Hours.”
It’s a Cinderella story that could only happen with a little help from the Hollywood production system. “Monte Carlo” was initially based on a novel called “Headhunters,” a story of four middle-aged Midwestern women on a jaunt through France. It’s now a tale of three Texas gals — one is 18 and the other two (played by Katie Cassidy and Leighton Meester) are 21 — falling in love and getting in trouble on the Riviera.(wizards of waverly place, wizards of waverly place episodes, selena
“It was based on a book geared toward older women,” Gomez explained during a promotional tour stopover in Livonia on June 27. “But when Fox got a hold of it, they decided to make it younger. Nicole still wanted to be involved, so she became a producer.”
