Skylar Grey Credits Eminem, Dr. Dre For Her Success

Singer and songwriter Skylar Grey has made quite the mark on the music industry after earlier stints performing under her given name didn’t quite make the splash she currently enjoys. Skylar is now a household name after collaborating with big name stars such as Diddy, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem and Dr. Dre – and the brunette beauty credits Slim Shady and the good doctor for her career revival.

In an interview with Rap Up TV, the artist formerly known as Holly Brook opened up about the trials of her career and how working with Em and Dre has been instrumental in the upswing of her visibility and career – even though she nearly missed the cut for Dr. Dre’s hit single from his last upcoming album Detox “I Need A Doctor.”

"Things kind of fell apart with my career and personal life, so I just retreated up in the woods in Oregon just to get away from L.A. and the whole music industry,” said Skylar. “I felt like I lost touch with who I was as a person, as an artist.” As Holly Brook, Grey released an album in 2006 titled and an EP as well. Skylar also collaborated with rockers Linkin Park and was featuring on a Fort Minor track as a vocalist.(skylar grey)

Dr. Dre was apparently considering bigger names to feature on “I Need A Doctor” with Lady Gaga as one of the potential voices. But at Eminem’s urging, Grey made the cut at a time in where she needed a boost. “Eminem was like, 'We are not taking her vocals off the song!' So I got kept on there and it changed my life,” said a humbled Skylar.
